The irony of life

I stepped out of my house this morning to go to work, on the way i watched as many braved the morning chills to walk to work before catching a Matatu, i sympathized with the women who have to wake up each morning to go to work, may be they are not so peaceful in their homes, maybe they are leaving on the edge, but again it is the irony of life we drive they walk, down the highway along Mombassa road more women, hawking bananas some with kids strapped tightly on their backs, vending newspapers while others had car accessories their mission is to ensure they have food on the table.

I know when i  drive along the major highways i will see more desperate faces of women and children now that schools are closed. The irony of life is that we have to work all our lives, we only rest when we die, who ever thinks being a millionaire gives you less time working and more time enjoying your hard earned cash is mistaken.  I remember sometime ago when i was traveling to Mombassa together with a host of other workmates, we requested Jetlink Express for complementaries, the captain himself was working on the complementaries, we spoke last just before midnight and by 5.30 am he called me personally to inform me all arrangements were in place, i wonder how many hours of sleep he catches every single night..

Aside from the millionaires club, there are other people who don't know how long they have to live on empty stomachs, the irony is while we speak they die, while we wait for other to act more people become vulnerable, and while the government refuses to acknowledge people are dying the private sector is acting.

The target is 500million shillings so far we are heading to the 100million mark, imagine this, for the government to fully mitigate the current crisis it needs 10billion shillings, do you remember that treasury gave the ministry of agriculture 8billion for this financial year? thats the irony of life, we use more than we produce, all the time running on a negative,  and this again is a short time solution. Do we still have our priorities right, do we as a country share in a common dream?

The irony is,  the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the average continue in the struggle to maintain the hold, i am not anywhere near average neither am i rich or poor all i understand is that  it has been difficult, luckily i know the way out, at least i understand the government cant do everything for me, do you?
